Alanis, Grimes and Nick give her a standing ovation! Grimes calls it her favorite performance of the whole competition. She definitely has a gentle voice but she’s a great storyteller. Her voice is really pretty, it almost reminds me of Taylor Swift. Night Journey is singing “This Town” by Niall Horan. She tells the judges she’s from “the dark” and she’s here to shine her light. Israa actually means Night Journey in Arabic and she wants to prove a Muslim girl can be a pop star. She’s a Lebanese-American singer-songwriter and people in her culture have told her she’s going to hell for singing pop music. Israa is a 19-year old from Dearborn Heights, Michigan and she needs her alter ego because she doesn’t fit the mold of a typical pop star. But is it enough to knock The Dawn Majesty off the diamond? Grimes doesn’t think so, but the other judges do so Kingston Sol takes his place on the diamond.Ĩ:30 p.m. Pink hearts catapult from his body as he belts out this modern country classic.
Kingston has a smooth voice and I appreciate that he doesn’t sound just like the original artist. He says he’s all about “love and light” before singing “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. Kingston has big hair, a big grin and struts out in a Hawaiian-looking shirt. Using an alter ego allows him to “sing the hell” out of some songs he doesn’t always get the chance to perform. The person behind him is James, a 35-year old music minister in church. Now it’s time to meet the next alter ego, Kingston Sol. Grimes was enthralled by the performance and Alanis calls her a “feminist icon.” As the first performer of the night, The Dawn Majesty takes her place on the diamond.Ĩ:19 p.m. Not only does she have a serious range, but this alter ego can shoot lasers out of her eyes! This is one of my favorite singers of the season! Nick bows down to the singer and compliments her energy and power. She’s got a lot of power in that voice with a rock edge that makes her exciting. The Dawn Majesty is singing “Confident” by Demi Lovato and confidence is exactly what she oozes. She is now going through a divorce and with a dawn comes a new beginning. Her experience in the music industry has had a lot of ups and downs. The person behind this alter ego is Kaleia, a 33-year old from Orlando. She’s a pink-skinned, blue-haired vixen who wants to bring forward parts of her true self that she’s neglected. The first alter ego up tonight is The Dawn Majesty. We can pull off these really incredible effects, effects that normally would have to be done in post-processing, in real time.8:09 p.m. “Unreal Engine is at the point where we can do real-time particle simulation, real-time hair simulation, and real-time lighting directly within the engine. Nothing like it has been done at this scale and in a prime time capacity ever before,” Pack explains.
Using Live Link removed the need for Alter Ego to write a dedicated plugin for the Vicon data packets, giving the team a free-flowing way to animate their skeletal meshes.īy the time production was complete, Silver Spoon and Lulu AR had helped create more than 80 performances, or 12 hours’ worth of content, all with no post-production required. Live Link is also used for facial animation via the dedicated Live Link Face app, which enables facial performances to be captured via an iPhone or iPad and rendered in real time in the engine. With virtually no latency, Unreal Engine is able to render high-quality animation captured from the actors onto the avatars in real time-as it happens. In tandem, Silver Spoon was tapping Unreal Engine’s Live Link capabilities to stream data from over ten mocap instances into the avatars. This is how we were able to do 10 unique performances each day.” “When lighting directors can program virtual and real studio lights on one console, and the characters can be programmed on another, you run through rehearsals much faster. “In order to pull off a show like Alter Ego, you need Unreal Engine’s DMX capabilities this is the vocabulary and protocol we all speak and the only way to bring in a network competition show on schedule,” says Zinman.
